Lake Vermilion Area Recreation
Numerous Superior National Forest and State hiking trails are in the region. A favorite is the Black Bay Peninsula Trail. The trail may be Minnesota's only water access only hiking trail. The trail begins and ends at a dock on Vermilion's Black Bay. It goes through a variety of undeveloped habitat types. One highlight along the trail is a beaver pond which always has a variety of birds, frogs and turtles. It is also an area frequented by moose. Another favorite is the Orr Bog Walk. The bog walk is entirely made of boards supported over a bog. The trail goes through very interesting habitats of the bog and the shore of the Pelican River. The trail is short, easy and excellent for wildlife (esp. birds) viewing. Horseback riding. We are happy to arrange trail rides for you at Willow River Ranch. Mtn. biking and road biking. The Lake Vermilion area has miles of excellent biking terrain, from a ½ mile loop on the resort, to miles of quiet county roads well suited to road biking to miles of gravel/dirt mtn. biking roads. Take a look at our Area Activities Map for other recreation locations.
